The Internet isn’t the same anymore. Recent events and a rapid rise of spam have gradually turned it into a dreadful pile of malicious content. Of course, this was present before as well, however, now it has become significantly more apparent and widespread especially if you aren’t particularly careful about it. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome this, at least on some level and hence, in this article, we will discuss a couple of Google Chrome extensions which can make the Internet a little less terrible for you to browse.
Good News
Ever wanted to block a particular keyword from your daily dose of news from Google? Well, with a free Chrome extension called “Good News”, you can. The app allows you to filter out any phrase you’d like to from Google News and completely removes all of its instances. You can obviously bring them with a simple click of a hovering button. Multiple keywords can be added as well and it even lets you import an existing list. “Good News” is certainly a must-have app if you have been frustrated by the media covering a topic aggressively. In case you’re wondering, it doesn’t hinder the overall browsing experience and is quite lightweight.
Spoiler Block
As the name suggests, this nifty little extension is built to avoid spoilers of your favorite TV show. You can specify the name and “Spoiler Block” will automatically obscure any related section on the Internet. However, unlike “Good News”, this tool isn’t limited to a single platform and works with almost every other website. Moreover, you are also not constrained to use it for avoiding spoilers, you can employ it for blocking any sort of news or discussion.
Filter by WOT
If you’re, though, looking for a more comprehensive and versatile tool for cleaning up the internet, download “Filter by WOT”. Installing this extension will allow you not only to hide stories about a keyboard but also block websites and adult content. Furthermore, if you have a kid because of which you’re reading this, the extension also comes with password protection. Hence, the settings can be only altered by you. The app works similarly to what we have discussed for and is entirely free of cost.
Unable.io
This one’s probably the most interesting extension on the list. “Unable.io” is an image filter addon that uses a set of AI algorithms and automatically blurs out inappropriate media. As a user, you just need to specify how strict do you want the algorithms to be. The extension supports basically every website that contains images including social networks like Facebook or Twitter. “Unable.io” is free and you can download it from the link mentioned down below.
Fake News Blocker
Fake news has been one of the most atrocious issues the Internet suffers from in 2017. Hence, we recommended adding an extension called “Fake News Blocker” that does exactly what its name says. The app will throw in a notification whenever it thinks you’re reading on a website that has a reputation for publishing misleading information. Additionally, it lets you select what kind of fake news you’d like to avoid such as “click bait”, “fake facts”, “satire” or “politically biased news”.
That’s it for this article; we hope you find these extensions useful for browsing the internet. Do let us know in the comments section if we missed a good one.
